Carrot

Carrot supplies are tightening up as we get further into the Fall season. This is expected with seasonality and weather changes this time of year. Out of California, supply is slightly stronger on conventional products, yet tight overall. See Carrot availability.

Grapefruit

Overall, the Grapefruit market is limited right now. Out of California, the new desert crop is just starting, and sizing is on the smaller side. The crop is ranging from 32 to 88ct, and peaking at 64-72ct. The season will be fully ramped in mid-November and is expected to last through the Spring. The Mexican grapefruit season will start in 1-2 weeks and last through early March. See Grapefruit availability.

orange

The California Valencia season is finished for the majority of suppliers. Demand is currently high for Valencias due to the lower supply available in the market. The Mexican season will begin in early November. At this point, the crop is looking strong, and there is better fruit set over last season. However, growers are still projecting lower yields than typical. California Navels will begin shortly and ramp up in November and December. The USDA estimates a 19% larger California Navel crop this upcoming season! Florida Valencias are primarily conventional and run from October through May generally. This season’s forecast is projected to be down 25% from last season, and there could be even a higher decrease due to damage from Hurricane. See Orange availability.

CARROT

Conventional and organic carrots are both in strong supply right now out of California. Additional California regions will pick up at the end of this month, and supply is expected to continue to be strong through the Fall and early Winter. See Carrot availability.

LEMON

New California crop out of D3 region (desert) has started and product is packing out well. We have organic and conventional juicer product available to prebook now through the Winter on the Marketplace. California supplies are expected to be very strong through the Winter and into early Spring, with the heaviest months being December and January. The Mexican season has begun for both conventional and organic product. There is a strong supply, with juice grade volume available weekly. Mexican supply should remain strong through October. Grapefruit

Overall, there is a low supply of Grapefruit in the market right now. Out of California, supplies are extremely limited with the only availability being the larger 23ct/27ct/32ct fruit. The new season will begin in mid-October and ramp up between November and January. The Mexican season should begin in mid-October and last through early March. See Grapefruit availability.

orange

The Mexican season is in its last week for both conventional and organic Valencias loading out of Nogales, AZ. There may be some fruit left later on, but the quality will be rough as is typical for end-of-season fruit. In California, demand is strong for conventional and organic Valencias, while supply is tight. Multiple suppliers are reporting delayed harvests due to fruit taking a long time to size up. With the Mexico season ending and CA harvests delayed, growers are anticipating prices to increase on CA Valencias towards the end of June. Due to the short Navel season, some growers started harvesting Valencias early in May to fill Navel contracts. This has caused some growers to gap right now for the next 2-3 weeks. Grapefruit

Growers are reporting steady supply and strong demand for conventional and organic grapefruit out of California. Organic product will be available through mid-July, with limited quantity from August to October. Mexico will start up again in mid-September. CA is peaking on larger sizes (23ct-36ct), but juice bins will contain all sizes (18ct-72ct). See Grapefruit availability.

CABBAGE

Supply is tight for conventional and organic green cabbage due to a cooler Spring that caused slower growth and harvesting delays. Of the product that is available, smaller head sizes are most prevalent. For conventional napa cabbage, supply is steady and head sizes are smaller (14ct-18ct range). Supply is extremely limited for organic napa cabbage. Many suppliers will not start harvesting until late June. Overall, the supply of green & Napa cabbage is expected to remain tight in the short term while the market waits for the head sizes to increase. See Cabbage availability.

Ginger

This is the low season for ginger, with limited availability across the board. There is some supply available of Peruvian and Mexican ginger needing at least a 1-3 week lead time. You can expect the market to continue to be tight until the Summer, when availability and pricing should improve. See Ginger availability.

Grapefruit

Out of California, conventional and organic grapefruit supply should remain steady for the next 6 - 8 weeks. The Mexican season is winding down and will finish up by the middle of March before starting up again in September. California is peaking on smaller sizes, while Mexico is peaking on larger-sized fruit. With the Mexican season close to over, you can expect California supply to tighten and prices to increase. Orange

Mexican growers have fully transitioned into true Valencias. The fresh market demand has been very slow for the last three weeks on both Conventional & Organics, causing growers to slow down harvests until pricing and demand improve. The Mexican season was originally estimated to end in April but is now likely to last through mid-May due to the harvest slowing down. California Navel supply out of the Central Valley & Southern Coastal regions is steady for both organic and conventional product. However, we expect availability to start diminishing as we approach the end of March and the beginning of April. The season will finish by the 2nd week of April. The crop is expected to end earlier than usual due to an industry-wide crop shortage this year. Normally, the California Navel supply will last until June. See Orange availability.

Lemon

There is a strong supply of conventional and organic lemons in all three California growing regions (Coastal, Central Valley, and Desert). Lemons out of the California desert are predicted to yield more juice-grade volume due to a “rougher” crop this year. Mexico finished its lemon season in December and should start up again at the end of August or early September. We expect California’s supply will remain steady for the foreseeable future; no major gaps on the horizon. See Lemon availability.

grapefruit

Grapefruit supply out of California is steady for organic and conventional, although it is getting tighter for organic product. The Mexican season is close to wrapping up at the end of this month, resulting in tightened supply. California is peaking on smaller sizes (56ct - 72ct), while Mexican is peaking on the larger sizes. With the Mexican season winding down, we expect demand to shift towards California, resulting in higher prices and tightening supply over the next few weeks. See Grapefruit availability.

cabbage

Growers are reporting a solid supply of conventional and organic green, red, and napa cabbage at this time. Pricing is currently higher across all varieties, but we have some good deals on organic red and green cabbage out of California.

Broccoli & Cauliflower

Yuma AZ, is expecting freezing weather temperatures in the mornings starting this week. These temps will reduce availability and could cause increased pricing on cauliflower and broccoli. Oxnard, CA is also expecting freezing temps and rain this week. We still have some solid pricing and availability on The Marketplace now, so we recommend getting in orders ASAP before the weather reduces supply. See Broccoli and Cauliflower availability.

Oranges

Conventional and organic early Valencias are in full swing! We have product available out of Nogales. Brix levels vary per grower but are generally 10.5 - 11.5 right now. Sizing is peaking in the 113ct - 138ct range. Conventional and organic Navel oranges out of California are also in full swing. The quality is solid, and there is choice and juice grade available. Brix levels are 11 - 12 currently. Sizes are peaking at 88ct, 72ct, and 113ct. See Orange availability.

Grapefruit

Mexican organic grapefruit is in full swing now with plenty of product available. Growers are peaking on larger-sized fruit. We also have a grower with weekly load volume of CV juicer product from now through February that is open for contracting. California organic grapefruit supply is steady. See Grapefruit availability.

Orange

Conventional and Organic Early Valencias have started out of Mexico, with product loading domestically out of Nogales. A cold front is coming to the Sonora, Mexico region soon, which will accelerate the maturity of the crop. Out of California, Conventional and Organic Navels are starting to pick up. The majority of volume is fancy, with very little choice and juice grade available from now until another week or so. See orange availability.

Grapefruit

Mexican Organic Grapefruit is in full swing with plenty of supply available. Growers are peaking on larger-sized fruit. Cabbage

Supplies are extremely light on conventional and organic green cabbage as growers transition to the Yuma season. Yuma cabbage harvests will start this week, but volumes will be on the lighter side during this early season. Heavy rainfall in Salinas in late October and early November, and cooler temperatures that prevailed during the tail end of the Salinas season and at the start of the Yuma growing season, reduced volumes and have pushed prices higher. See cabbage availability.
