Apple

The Apple market is mixed depending on the variety and size constraint, and overall, we expect pricing to trend upwards over the next few weeks. Granny Smiths are tight, especially for the smaller-sized fruit. Pricing for small Grannys and Red Delicious are expected to continue to increase over the coming weeks due to demand outpacing supply. Fujis are also tight for smaller sizes, with better availability for larger apples. See Apple availability.

Broccoli

The Broccoli market remains steady but somewhat tight. Supplies continue to tighten, resulting in higher prices. Upcoming cooler weather is expected to drive the market even higher. See Broccoli availability.

Cabbage

Cabbage supplies are starting to come down, with demand increasing simultaneously. This has driven market pricing up. You can find organic Napa out of California on the Marketplace now.  See Cabbage availability.

Produce Trends - June 13, 2022

orange

The Mexican season is in its last week for both conventional and organic Valencias loading out of Nogales, AZ. There may be some fruit left later on, but the quality will be rough as is typical for end-of-season fruit. In California, demand is strong for conventional and organic Valencias, while supply is tight. Multiple suppliers are reporting delayed harvests due to fruit taking a long time to size up. With the Mexico season ending and CA harvests delayed, growers are anticipating prices to increase on CA Valencias towards the end of June. Due to the short Navel season, some growers started harvesting Valencias early in May to fill Navel contracts. This has caused some growers to gap right now for the next 2-3 weeks. Grapefruit

Growers are reporting steady supply and strong demand for conventional and organic grapefruit out of California. Organic product will be available through mid-July, with limited quantity from August to October. Mexico will start up again in mid-September. CA is peaking on larger sizes (23ct-36ct), but juice bins will contain all sizes (18ct-72ct). See Grapefruit availability.

CABBAGE

Supply is tight for conventional and organic green cabbage due to a cooler Spring that caused slower growth and harvesting delays. Of the product that is available, smaller head sizes are most prevalent. For conventional napa cabbage, supply is steady and head sizes are smaller (14ct-18ct range). Supply is extremely limited for organic napa cabbage. Many suppliers will not start harvesting until late June. Overall, the supply of green & Napa cabbage is expected to remain tight in the short term while the market waits for the head sizes to increase. See Cabbage availability.

cucumber

Cucumber supply is steady with availability on both coasts now. The Nogales cucumber crop is winding down, but there are still a few growers with availability remaining. Baja west-coast cukes are moving steadily with good volume. East-coast supply is increasing as Georgia starts to have some light availability this week.

orange

Mexican supply is decreasing on both conventional and organic Valencias loading out of Nogales, AZ. The organic season will end completely by the second week of June, while the conventional season will last through late June. California Valencias are just getting started so volume is still ramping. Choice and juice grade fruit is especially limited right now. Some organic growers have delayed harvests to let the fruit ripen and color further. You can expect the volume of juice fruit to be more plentiful towards the middle of June. See Orange availability.

cabbage

Growers are reporting tight supply and higher prices on both organic and conventional green cabbage. Some growers are barely able to cover their contracted volume. It's been unseasonably cool this Spring in Salinas, resulting in slow growth, harvesting delays, and mostly small to medium size product. The common defects right now are internal Burn (browning) and seeder. The supply on both Green and Napa cabbage is expected to remain tight in the short term while the growers wait for the head sizes to increase. The Salinas season should last through mid-November, so please reach out to sales@fullharvest.com about any late summer cabbage needs to lock in pricing and volumes now.

CABBAGE

Growers are reporting steady to lighter supplies of red and green cabbage as we get past the increased demand on St. Patrick’s Day. You can expect a small gap between the desert volume winding down at the end of March and northern Salinas supply coming online in April. For Napa Cabbage, Yuma growers are reporting heavy supplies for now. Napa will transition to Salinas starting at the beginning of April with moderate supply and lighter weights expected then. You can expect supply on all cabbages to start to lighten up at the end of March due to the transition from Yuma to Salinas. The Salinas season will go through mid-November. CARROT

Demand is still high on all types of organic and conventional carrots. Mexico's supply is primarily conventional, crossing through McAllen, TX. With the Canadian season over, demand for Mexican product is higher. Supply should remain light until the season ramps up in April. We expect organic carrots to remain tight until May when more suppliers come back online. See Carrot availability.

ORANGE

Mexican Valencia supply is steady for fancy and juice fruit, with limited choice grade available. The season was originally estimated to end in April, but is now likely going through mid-May. Peak sizes are 72/88ct with a limited volume of 113/138ct available. California Valencias will start in mid-May/June and run through Sept./Oct. California Navel supply out of the central valley & southern coastal regions is steady now but will start winding down as we head into April. Demand for Organic Navels has diminished in the last two weeks, causing growers to slow their harvests. We expect the season to last through April. See Orange availability.

CARROTS

The major carrot growing regions are in transition from the San Joaquin Valley to the Imperial Valley, causing limited supplies of jumbos. Supplies are expected to get better when size increases in March. See Carrot availability.

CELERY

Value-added celery, like sticks, is limited as demand is greater than supply due to capacity constraints. Whole celery has steady availability at this time. Supplies should increase around March. See Celery availability.

cabbage

Cabbage supply has been affected by some insect presence in the desert region of California recently. Specifically, organic cabbage is showing some damage from Aphids infestation. Pricing remains on the higher end at this time.

Lemon

There is a strong supply of conventional and organic lemons in all three California growing regions (Coastal, Central Valley, and Desert). Lemons out of the California desert are predicted to yield more juice-grade volume due to a “rougher” crop this year. Mexico finished its lemon season in December and should start up again at the end of August or early September. We expect California’s supply will remain steady for the foreseeable future; no major gaps on the horizon. See Lemon availability.

grapefruit

Grapefruit supply out of California is steady for organic and conventional, although it is getting tighter for organic product. The Mexican season is close to wrapping up at the end of this month, resulting in tightened supply. California is peaking on smaller sizes (56ct - 72ct), while Mexican is peaking on the larger sizes. With the Mexican season winding down, we expect demand to shift towards California, resulting in higher prices and tightening supply over the next few weeks. See Grapefruit availability.

cabbage

Growers are reporting a solid supply of conventional and organic green, red, and napa cabbage at this time. Pricing is currently higher across all varieties, but we have some good deals on organic red and green cabbage out of California.

cabbage

Cabbage supplies have been light recently and we expect that to continue for the next two weeks or so before improving. Cool desert weather has affected sizing and availability as well. carrot

Carrot supplies remain tight, with demand outpacing supply for the most part. Jumbos on the West coast are especially tight, but there is some steady supply out of Mexico. We expect this volatility to continue for at least the remainder of February. See Carrot availability.

lemon

Lemon availability remains steady. However, we are seeing lighter volumes for the smaller Choice grade fruit. Overall, the quality is good with supply peaking on the larger fancy grade fruit. Produce Trends - November 22, 2021

Orange

Conventional and Organic Early Valencias have started out of Mexico, with product loading domestically out of Nogales. A cold front is coming to the Sonora, Mexico region soon, which will accelerate the maturity of the crop. Out of California, Conventional and Organic Navels are starting to pick up. The majority of volume is fancy, with very little choice and juice grade available from now until another week or so. See orange availability.

Grapefruit

Mexican Organic Grapefruit is in full swing with plenty of supply available. Growers are peaking on larger-sized fruit. Cabbage

Supplies are extremely light on conventional and organic green cabbage as growers transition to the Yuma season. Yuma cabbage harvests will start this week, but volumes will be on the lighter side during this early season. Heavy rainfall in Salinas in late October and early November, and cooler temperatures that prevailed during the tail end of the Salinas season and at the start of the Yuma growing season, reduced volumes and have pushed prices higher. See cabbage availability.
